Beer and Content Strategy: Spicing Up Your Titles

In the inaugural video, SEO Specialist Seth and myself, the Content Strategist, talk about how spicing up your titles to increase your click through rate. This talk is aided by the citrusy taste of Indeed’s seasonal Shenanigan’s Beer, which would pair well with a Sriracha bacon burger, according to our resident Sriracha lover, Seth.

So, what happens when your not getting any clicks on your article or blog posts? First off, this can be a big problem, because if you’re putting in the work to write these blogs, but aren’t seeing any return on your investment if people aren’t reading, clicking, or converting on your content.

To make sure that your getting clicks on your posts, make sure that you use an attention-grabbing title. If you put thought into your titles and “spice” them up, you can make them more likely to stand out amongst the clutter of a Google search or on social platforms.

Here are 4 ways to improve your titles:

  • Use Numbers – Works great for catching eyes
  • Be descriptive on what you’re talking about – The reader is more inclined to click and read if they know what the content is about
  • Include Boost words (near the front when possible) – Once again, an eye-catching feature
  • Use Parenthesis and colons – Parenthesis grab eyes, colons appear authoritative and professional

An example would be “The Ultimate Guide to Commercial Interior Design: What it is and Why it’s Important”

‘Ultimate Guide’ acts as our boost word.

The ‘Commercial Interior Design: What it is and Why it’s Important’ help to describe just exactly what the reader will be learning about, therefore giving them incentive to click.

The Colon provides professionalism and authority.

There are truly an infinite amount of possibilities of which words to use, so just use these rules as basic guidelines to use whenever applicable. You can truly personalize your titles to make each one unique, so there are no excuses when it comes to bland titles.

It doesn’t just stop with making sure you get clicks however, because if you are lying and your content isn’t the same quality as your title, then people will bounce from that page. They likely won’t come back either if they perceive your site to be spammy.

That means you have to make sure that the writing is good and that it actually provides a benefit to the reader. That is, it addresses a pain point and offers a solution to them.
